In Paradossi dell’Abbondanza #49 (Paradoxes of Plenty #49) – part of the solo show Fame d’aria, curated by Matteo Lucchetti at Lia Rumma Gallery in Naples – Migliora uses the Japanese technique of gyotaku—a direct impression printing method utilized in the second half of the nineteenth century by fishermen to record their catches—by coating some fish with sepia and printing them on washi paper. The work focuses on the consequences of intensive fishing and the phenomenon of ghost nets. These are nets lost by fishing boats at sea, which account for 85% of plastic waste in the world’s oceans. These nets, scattered across the seabed, continue to do their job incessantly: trapping prey unnecessarily.
