Paradossi dell’Abbondanza #30 (Paradoxes of Plenty #30) is part of a series of works on paper created since 2017 with the collage and drawing technique. The title quotes a chapter from the book An edible history of humanity, by the English journalist Tom Standage.
The work is formally composed as a theater, in which the subjects on stage revolve around the central theme of water as a source of life, means of purification and center of regeneration, and of water carriers, women who still today carry amphorae full of water from wellsprings to villages, holding them on their heads, especially in the South of the world (and, in the past, also in Southern Italy). The backdrop and the stage are made up of a surface that resembles desert terrain, broken by cracks caused by drying out due to drought. This scenario refers to the climate emergency and the ongoing desertification, caused by an unsustainable use of natural resources.
