The seven black monochromes – part of the solo show Forza Lavoro, curated by Matteo Lucchetti at the Lia Rumma Gallery in Milan – are obtained from processing combustion residue derived from the 2015 fire at the Palazzo del Lavoro in Turin collected by the artist and other dust from dust collectors positioned above workstations in metal factories and goldsmith workshops. The act of mixing these residues in a painterly way provides a visualization of them and makes their presence in our lives tangible. The so-called volatile organic compounds of anthropogenic origin, which are harmful to human health, are in fact as imperceptible as they are omnipresent in our daily lives, contemporary societies being dependent on petroleum derivatives and their endless processing.
