In the Country of Last Things – part of the solo show Forza lavoro, curated by Matteo Lucchetti at Lia Rumma Gallery in Milan –takes its title from Paul Auster’s dystopian novel. The photographic series presents five photographs obtained from pinhole devices constructed by the artist by assembling various abandoned objects (an electrical control unit and an electronic control box, among others) found in Pier Luigi Nervi’s Palazzo del Lavoro in Turin and left for a long time in disused spaces. The images, thus obtained, are laden with meaning, like unintentional still lifes, the result of abandonment, telling of the decay of the modernist dream encapsulated in that architectural project.
