The installation H₂O – O₂ – part of the solo show Fame d’aria, curated by Matteo Lucchetti at Lia Rumma Gallery in Naples –consists of five circles – surmounted by three-dimensional collages, made to rotate on themselves by the user’s hand – of different diameters and heights, representing the molecules of the chemical formulas of water and oxygen. Above the bases, five three-dimensional landscapes bring together history and current events regarding the relationship between animal and human species, whose images are cut from historical illustrations, taken from nineteenth- and twentieth-century issues of La Domenica del Corriere (published from 1899 to 1989), mixed with contemporary images. These dioramas feature multiple scenes of struggles among humans attempting to domesticate so-called wild animals. The entire work is a reflection on the persistence of an imaginary domination of nature that, like molecules, has settled into our perceptions, which are, however, dynamic and free to change perspective.
